Take Me To The Prom On Time By JASER A. MARASIGAN February 8, 2012, 3:46am Photo By Jovel Lorenzo
MANILA, Philippines — For YouTube sensations and yes, certified prom queens, Ericka and Krissy Villongco agree that it is important for every teenager to experience prom.
Aside from being a once in a lifetime experience, the prom is also a rite of passage to adolescence.
Her prom was memorable, for older sister Ericka, because it was the first time that she was allowed by her parents to go out on a formal date.
“I was a bit nervous but at the same time, I felt like I was all grown up already. The night was very memorable for me because it was the first time my parents allowed me to get picked up and dropped home by a boy. He was a real gentleman. When the night came to an end, he confessed his feelings for me. And I secretly liked him as well.”
Younger sister Krissy relates that the prom was all she looked forward to when she went into high school: “I looked forward to my junior year because I was so excited for prom! I think it is every girl's fairytale. My date was a really good friend of mine so it wasn't so hard to ask him out because we were pretty much very close.”
Since 'tis the season of proms and graduation balls, the teen singing sister duo gives 10 helpful tips and answers to the who, what, when, where, why and how of every high school girl's fairytale (and every guy's much-awaited high school moment too), that is the prom...
Although traditionally, it is a guy who asks the girl to the prom, it is also completely okay for a girl to ask a guy to be her date. Some guys are intimidated by girls, and really want to ask the girl out, but don't know how. So asking a guy is perfectly alright.
Prom is a once in a lifetime event and there's no reason to feel ashamed to ask a boy to prom. And just remember, if he says no, a pack of girls can sometimes be just as fun as a boy/ girl date.
It also happens that someone asks you out but you happen to have a date already, or simply you don’t like the person who’s asking you. The best way to turn him or her down is to thank him or her for his or her offer. Then tell them that unfortunately someone got to you first.
You can also go the extra mile and tell them that you’ll see them there and save a dance for them. Even if you have no intention of dancing with this person, it’s still a nice gesture. Just be gracious.
Girls, don’t keep your date guessing. Let him know what you’re wearing on the big night so he can coordinate his tux and flowers for a perfect match. If your dress is going to be long, try avoiding those high heels. The comfier, the better.
It is easier now to pick what and how you want your dress to look like. Browse through photos on Tumbler or Google to get some ideas and inspiration weeks before the big day.
For the guys, while you’re getting ready, place your flowers in the refrigerator to make them last all night long. Thank her for being a great date with a gorgeous bouquet. Look your best. Make sure to get your beauty sleep the night before the prom. Ask a friend or a family member about stuffs like how you should do your hair, or what shoes would match the dress.
Make a good impression on your date and your date’s parents. Most parents would want to meet your date before you go to the prom. You may even have to fetch your date at her place so make sure to be presentable and polite. Mind your table manners and etiquette. It is also important to have a good conversation with your partner.
Prom-goers should take the responsibility of their safety into their own hands and really make sure to have a good time while taking care of themselves. So it would be best to go with your friends or as a group so you can also look after each other.
For the guys, make sure not to miss your curfew when taking your date home, don’t forget to say thank you to your date and to her parents.
Should it be ok with your parents, plan an “after prom” sleepover party with your friends. You might want to just hang out and relax at your friend’s house afterwards. Then, when everyone is wide awake you can have a wild breakfast of omelets, waffles, pancakes or whatever!
Make memories last. Don’t forget to bring your digital camera (or camera phones) and take as many photos.

Yeng Constantino’s Ok Lang Maging Single sa Valentines, held yesterday at the Music Museum, proved to be more than just a pre-Valentine show.
It also exhibited how the Pop RockPrincess has grown into a more confident performer, artist.
“Proud ako of this concertbecause I can really say na involved ako sa bawat stage ng concert na ‘to,” says Yeng. “I am very thankful that Cornerstone and my manager Erickson Raymundo supported my vision for the show.”
Erickson, on the other hand, noted how Yeng has significantly, effectively evolved throughout the years and said that the Hawak Kamay singer-composer has truly come into her own distinct look, brand of music.
“She is truly a young music icon,” adds Erickson. “And, we are very proud of her.”
Ok Lang Maging Single sa Valentines is undeniably the kind ofconcert that only a performer like Yeng could pull off.
Throughout the concert, directed by Dido Camara, Yeng belted out songs with so much ease, clarity, honesty, character, and confidence.
Yeng started the show on a high note with her rendition of Bon Jovi’s You Give Love A Bad Name. The jampacked Music Museum stood and danced in support of their Pop Rock Princess.
Throughout the concert, she exhibited excellent command of her performance and audience while belting out songs with so much ease, clarity, honesty and confidence.
Yeng also performed her versions of Adele’s Someone Like You andAlicia Keys’ If I Aint Got You.
Three special medleys were also included in the repertoire that tackled different love themes – Being Single (Mahirap Magmahal ng Syota ng Iba, Mr. Kupido, Kung Ako Na Lang Sana, Pers Lab), Being Alone (Goodbye To Love, Hiding Inside Myself, Bluer Than Blue), and Hope (Wag Na Matakot, Umaaraw, Umuulan, 214, With A Smile).
Yeng was joined by Jovit Baldivino in a special duet of the latter’s hit Too Much Love Will Kill You. Paolo Valenciano, meanwhile, had a Kamusta Ka Na-Tag-Ulan duet with the Pop Rock Princess.
Her current single Pag-Ibig was also performed to the delight of her fans, which packed the entire venue. Erik Santos, Richard Poon, Christian Bautista, Rachelle Ann Go, Yael Yuzon, K-la Rivera, andYael Yuzon also supported Yeng. Sam Milby, who is now in the US, opened the show with a special VTR as Yeng’s ex-boyfriend.
She closed her concert the same way she started it – on a high note with another Bon Jovi song It’s My Life.
Lucky break: Sisters Ericka (left) and Krissy were spotted by MCA Music in the Philippines after they uploaded videos of their singing on YouTube in 2007.
Who: Singing sisters Regine Kristine Villongco, 17, aka Krissy, and her sister Ericka Renee Villongco, 18, who hail from the Philippines. Krissy first put up videos of herself singing on YouTube in 2007 when she was 13 years old and Ericka joined her in filming videos together later. Two years later, they were spotted by MCA Music in the Philippines, under the major, American-based record company, Universal Music Group.
Krissy, a high-school student, and Ericka, a first-year university student, were recently in Singapore to tour with another YouTube star, Filipino-American AJ Rafael, and to promote their sophomore album Twelve: Fifty One.
Twelve: Fifty One features original songs such as the title track and covers which include English chart-topper Adele's Rolling In The Deep.
The sisters live in Manila with their parents, housewife Judith and businessman Nino Villongco, both 40.
When did you two start your musical journey?
Krissy: I started voice lessons when I was four years old, but my mum said I used to hum myself to sleep when I was a baby. My sister started learning the classical guitar when she was 10 and I took up the flute. Then I started doing covers and would sing to background music. She taught me how to play the guitar.
Ericka: I joined her for fun on YouTube, it wasn't something we planned and when more people liked our YouTube videos, we decided to make more together.
How does it feel to have released your self-titled debut album Krissy & Ericka (2009) and now your second album at such a young age?
Krissy: It's definitely a blessing for us. We're really thankful that it happened because not a lot of people can get the chance to have two albums, sign with a major label and go on tour. It's really fun.
The two of you started out on YouTube at an even younger age. How do you deal with all the criticism?
Krissy: At first it was really hard, I remember going to school one time and when I walked down the halls, I heard people mocking me. I was 13.
Looking back, it made me stronger as a person and a performer as well, because there will be criticism wherever we go.
Ericka: And it wasn't common to make YouTube videos then. Till today, we still get a lot of comments on our videos but I see it as a good thing. We take in the constructive ones, such as those that tell us if we sound too pitchy, but not those which are personal attacks.
Why is your album titled Twelve: Fifty One?
Ericka: Krissy wrote the song Twelve: Fifty One in the morning - she was just jamming and she saw the clock. Also, the chorus has a line that goes: "This is 12.51..." (sings).
She wrote the song for a boy she met in high school and it's a story about her liking someone, but she's too scared to take the risk of telling him and he eventually likes someone else. And it became the album title because we liked it so much.
What is it like trying to make it in the Filipino music scene?
Ericka: It's a lot different from other places such as the United States, where it's more about being original. In the Philippines, they prefer covers of popular songs.
Krissy: We're hoping to change that by singing more original songs. I should try writing songs in Tagalog, which we do sing a lot when we're homesick. I tried it once, it was okay but it is hard. I'm used to speaking in English, so it is difficult to rhyme in Tagalog.
With scores of fledgling singers belting their hearts out to a minus one and aspiring dancers busting out a variety of jaw-dropping dance moves on YouTube, it seems there is little place left on YouTube for the rest of the world’s wide-eyed dreamers.
Nevertheless, Filipino country-pop duo Krissy & Ericka has proven that the odds can be beaten.
The Villongco sisters Krissy (L) and Ericka have been clocking up millions of hits on YouTube with their acoustic covers.
Regine Kristine Villongco or Krissy, began posting acoustic covers of the day’s contemporary hits on her YouTube channel, krissysings, when she was 12 years old. With a guitar strapped across her chest, the teenager strummed and sang passionately to a steady but small stream of YouTubers.
Undeterred, she continued to sing. However, it was only when her sister, Ericka Renee Villongco (who is 10 months older) joined forces with her, that the duo became unstoppable.
Today, Krissy and Ericka, now 17 and 18 respectively, are singing to the tune of over 17 million YouTube views, with two studio albums to their names and a throng of roaring fans.
The duo was recently in town to perform for AJ Rafael’s “Red Roses Tour in Southeast Asia” as guest artistes.
“I think it’s a plus that we’re sisters, we know each other very well, our strengths and our weaknesses,” said Ericka about working together as sisters.
Krissy said that although fights between the two are not uncommon, it usually only takes 30 minutes before they become “friends again”.
Perhaps it is this show of camaraderie and their ability to put their differences aside that has sustained their success five years on.
Recently, the sisters came through yet again with the release of their second studio album, 12:51. The record features a total of 10 tracks, six of which are covers of today’s chart-toppers, ranging from country fares such as Taylor Swift’s Back To December to pop hits like Katy Perry’s Last Friday Night (T.G.I.F.) and Rihanna’s Love The Way You Lie.
“We pick songs out of our mood, (and) also what’s kind of popular at the moment,” shared Krissy. They did a refreshing take on Adele’s Rolling In The Deep. The duo’s innocent, saccharine voices are able to hold their own, introducing a unique acoustic flair to the angsty break up anthem. The result is a sharp but delectable contrast.
The remaining four tracks are original compositions, two of which featured fellow YouTube breakout artistes, AJ Rafael and Marié Digby while the title track, 12:51, was penned by Krissy herself.
When asked about the inspiration behind the love song, Ericka immediately lit up and offered to answer on Krissy’s behalf.
“Krissy has never had a boyfriend, so I don’t know where she gets all that inspiration from,” Ericka poked light-heartedly. “But basically the story is about having a crush on a guy, liking someone but too afraid to take the risk of telling the guy,” she continued.
Boyfriend or no boyfriend, the duo’s original track is testament not only to their ability to sing but in songwriting as well. While they may be able to sing the phonebook, it looks like they need not resort to that.
However, the sisters also revealed that the path to success has been a rocky one. Shortly after posting their covers on YouTube, their schoolmates quickly made their grouses known.
“I’d be walking down the halls and they would mock me about what I say on the videos,” Krissy recalled.
Ericka also had her share of negative encounters, citing hate comments on YouTube as the most frequent occurrence. Some viewers judge the girls’ appearances, while others provide more constructive criticisms targeted at the technical aspects of their performance.
Thankfully, it was the duo’s ability to vet out the personal from the professional that has taken them through this unyielding storm of criticisms.
“I just think that music is music, it shouldn’t matter what the person looks like,” Krissy reasoned.
Nevertheless, the sisters are quick to add they welcome constructive criticism whole-heartedly.
The sisters are actively involved in charity work, taking on the role as Red Cross and World Vision youth ambassadors. The songbirds are determined to lead by example when it comes to making a positive impact on their nation.
“We think that knowledge comes from experience, and if we do that, other people (will) follow you,” Ericka added.
With a heart for the underprivileged, a talent for singing and songwriting, a candid persona, and most remarkably, their ability to beat the odds despite tremendous competition from other YouTube artistes, it is no wonder why Krissy and Ericka seem too good to be true.

BROOKLYN, NEW YORK – One of the Philippines’ most bankable Kapamilya star, singer/actor Sam Milby is now in New York to chase his Hollywood dreams.
In one of his Heartthrobs concerts last year, Sam Milby’s looks, talent and stage charm impressed a New York ABC Network TV executive who happened to be watching the show. The TV executive then invited Milby for a meeting followed by screen tests and interviews.
Milby is making New York his temporary home so he could focus on auditioning for acting roles in US mainstream TV offered by numerous casting agents, thanks to the ABC TV executive. Sam Milby said, “All emotions wrapped into one, nervous, excitement, siyempre nam-imi-miss sa Pilipinas, but most of all excited.”
Milby arrived from the Philippines Wednesday to move into his new fully-furnished apartment in Brooklyn, New York.
Milby had two pilot TV show auditions scheduled, just a day after he arrived from Manila – one for giant network ABC – makers of hit shows like Desperate Housewives, Greys Anatomy, and Lost. The other is for CW TV network, known for shows like Vampire Diaries, Gossip Girl and 9-0-2-1-0.
Milby said, “My ultimate goal, of course, the whole point of me auditioning is to get into one of the pilot shows and not only to get into a pilot show to have that pilot show be picked up by the network to be put into full production.”
Leaving his lucrative career in the Philippines was not an easy decision for Milby.
Now he’s back to square one, after making it in the Philippine Showbusiness – he has accomplished a lot in the Philippines including an Emmy nomination for the teleserye “Impostor,” where he was the lead actor.
Milby said, “I have to take risks in life, you know what I mean, when I moved to the Philippines, wala naman akong trabaho nun eh, you know, I have no idea what I was getting myself into, with this I have an agency, I have good feedback naman, It’s just going by faith, you know, believing that something good will come out of this.” The pressure to land a job in Hollywood may be high but Sam keeps himself grounded to the reality that the he may or not make it to Hollywood in just three months in the U.S. Milby said, “Even if nothing happens, it’s still something good kasi, the experience you know, this is something that will help me grow as a person talaga, no matter what I’ll come out of this a different person and that’s a good thing.”
Milby says, if he makes it then he may stay longer in New York, if not, he will definitely come back again next year when pilot TV shows open its 2013 casting season.

Cornerstone Concerts and Qualibet is
getting a piece of the live music action this coming February with a hot
concept event for the month-of-hearts entitled “Make Me Sweat: A
Sexy Valentines Show.” This one-night-only show features up and coming singer and
one of today’s hottest TV personalities Markki
Stroem and the iconic dance group G-Force
on a one-of-a-kind pairing.
Recall that Markki Stroem had shown
what he’s made of in front of millions of TV viewers when he made it as
finalist in ABS-CBN’s “Pilipinas Got Talent” back in 2010. The tall,
Fil-Norwegian good looks of Stroem, and not to mention his exceptional singing
and songwriting definitely made him as one of the favorites in PGT. Stroem’s
career is just blossoming and 2012 could be his banner year with his soon to be
released debut album under a major record label. Besides being a first-rate
singer, Stroem also has some acting skills and this he showed during his run as
the character “Henry” in Atlantis Productions theatrical presentation of “Next
To Normal” which he got a best actor nomination in Phil Broadway Awards.
The talented Stroem will parlay all
that showbiz essentials and probably a bit more come February 4, when he is
paired with one of the country’s most in demand dance troupes in TV and concert
scenes.
G- Force, is quite literally, a force
to be reckoned with when the topic of dance is raised. Already a veteran of countless
concerts and TV productions, despite only being at its seventh year in show
business, this talented dance group, led by director Georcelle Dapat-Sy and managing director, Angel Sy, has already
proven its high caliber standards as an A-list dance group. Innovative, hip and
fresh are but some of the adjectives that comes to mind when G- Force is being
described.
So expect it to be a fine balance of
music and dance, and a sexy and gorgeous one at that, as this two pairs off in
an extravaganza that will pit youthful exuberance, good looks and the sexually
appealing persona of Markki Stroem and the naturally sexy and iconic dance
group G- Force in “Make Me Sweat : A Sexy Valentine Show.”
The big
night is on February 4, Saturday at the Music Museum. Action starts at 8 pm.

Pop Rock Princess Yeng Constantinois on a creative streak! Fans of the talented lass will be glad to
know that the “Hawak Kamay” singer and songwriter is in the thick of brewing
something unique and special come February 3, Friday the day she unveils a
musical presentation entitled “Ok
Lang Maging Single Sa Valentines.”
The title of the show is a phrase
born out of Yeng’s own idea. “It was August of last year around the time of my
solo concert at the Aliw Theater, when I thought of the title and immediately,
the concept of a show came to me,” Yeng said. “I thought ‘wouldn’t it be nice
to come up with a show with singles in mind instead of the usual Valentines
show for couples?’“ she added.
Hence the catchy title and the burst
of creative energy from Yeng who, since her 2011’s solo concert, is growing to
be more hands on when it comes to her career. “I’m contributing to the whole
look of the show, from the concert poster design, as well as the songs that
I’ll do and the choice of musicians I want to play with” enthuses Constantino,
who is lately bursting with ideas and is hard at work in preparation for the
show.
For sure, come Valentines, we’ll be
inundated by advertisements regarding dinner dates and other specials with “the
couple” in mind. We doubt that you’ll
see any other hearts-day event that pertains to “singles” except this one from
Yeng, and there lies the uniqueness of her show. Not only does the Yeng have
the interest of the “single community” at heart, but who better to speak for
“all the lonely people” than she who is in the same boat? She has a more positive view about it though
when she tells, “I think it’s normal to wish for someone special to come along,
but if it’s not’s the right time, we shouldn’t force it. Let’s enjoy the
single-blessedness of our situation.”
Yeng Constantino will have the whole
night of February 3 to convince everybody at the Music Museum why it’s not so
bad to be single on Valentines day. In fact she will convince you that its “Ok
Lang Maging Single Sa Valentines” when she reveals that, “all the songs that
I’m singing will be a case to prove why it’s good to be single.” That and a couple
of surprise guests Jovit Baldivino and Paolo Valenciano and Yeng’s special
treat for everyone that comes in the form of new, original songs that she will
be debuting on the upcoming show.
As an idea, “Ok Lang Maging Single Sa
Valentines” is a nugget of folksy wisdom from Yeng who expresses that being
“single is just a status…in truth it’s a season in our life that needs to be
celebrated.” And celebrate it she will when show date comes.
“Ok Lang
Maging Single Sa Valentines” opens on a Friday on February 3 and show starts at
8 pm at The Music Museum and brought to us by Cornerstone Concerts, RRJ and
Qualibet, the show is directed by Dido Camara, the brains behind “ASAP

Jack Rufo. For tickets, call Ticketworld at 891-9999. Ticket prices are Php
